They say we eat food with our eyes first, but this does not always apply. When you are trying to lose weight, not all food that looks good is good. Some of the foods, especially snacks, look great but taste horrible. When you are in the mood for a healthy treat, you want to enjoy every bite, which is why I think everyone must have a list of go-to great tasting healthy homemade snacks. This healthy banana split tastes just as great as it looks and will keep you trim and satisfied.

What makes this healthy banana split a favorite of mine is that it is easy to make- it will take you less than 10 minutes to prepare. I also love the fact that you can customise this recipe to suit the whole family for breakfast or as a snack. I have added a kid-friendly recipe that the picky eater in your family will love.

You can read my full disclosure here

Nonfat Plain Greek Yogurt – Although regular yogurt has fewer calories than Greek yogurt, it contains more sugar than Greek yogurt. Another reason you should choose Greek over regular yogurt is that it contains more protein than the latter.

Granola/Muesli – You can either use homemade or store-bought granola. Whichever option you pick, just ensure that it does not have added sugar or artificial sweeteners.

You can also replace granola with rolled as long as and not quick oats. If you are on a gluten-free diet, then this granola is still perfect for you.

Honey– You can substitute honey with maple syrup if that is what you prefer. If you are a peanut butter addict you can also drizzle your banana split with sugar-free peanut butter instead of honey.

Blueberry sauce– You may use raspberries in place of blueberries.

Bananas– Use ripe but firm bananas, and if you are making the banana split ahead of time, spritz a little lemon juice over the bananas. This will stop them from turning brown.

You may also enjoy:

Few kids willingly eat vegetables and fruits. My children are in their early teens, and I still have to remind or push them to eat fresh fruit and vegetables. *Sigh* If yours are younger, chances are you we are in the same boat. This brings us to this banana boat snack for picky eaters.

If your problem has been getting your child to eat fruits, you can solve that by preparing this colorful and yummy treat. If eating a healthy breakfast is an issue for your picky eaters, serve this as breakfast and see how it goes.

Yogurt- Instead of Greek yogurt, you may use their favorite yogurt flavour. You can also freeze the yogurt if you want them to feel like they are having ice cream for breakfast!

Honey– If your child is not old enough to eat honey, you can use maple syrup.

Blueberries– You can substitute with any of their favorite berries.

Extra toppings– You can top the banana split with chocolate chips, granola, peanut butter or extra berries.

Now that we have sorted out your fussy child, let’s refocus on you. You can have this for breakfast in so many ways and still, keep it super healthy.

Other fruits – fresh or dry, you can really go to town on this banana split, it’s all up to you.

How to make the perfect banana split for breakfast

What you need to make this depends all on how rich you want your breakfast banana split.

1 banana

2 tablespoons granola

3 strawberries

2 tablespoon Greek yogurt

1/4 cup blueberries

1 tablespoon honey

Pinch of salt

1/4 cup water

To make the sauce

Put all ingredients for the sauce into a saucepan and cook on medium heat.
